Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, is a city where art permeates every corner. From world-renowned masterpieces to the walls of structures as old as the 11th century, all covered with street art, this year we have been discovering the capital of the Tuscany region, and we are eclipsed by the feast we were offered—a feast for the eyes and soul served on a Dionysian platter. If you are passionate about traveling the world in search of art, Florence is the city for you.

While everyone should experience seeing Botticelli’s "The Birth of Venus" in person, the city's art scene extends far beyond the confines of its famous museums. Florence's streets, churches, and public spaces are living galleries, each telling a story that spans centuries. The juxtaposition of classical art and modern street art is central to the enjoyment of the city’s rich artistic heritage.

1. Uffizi Gallery

The Uffizi Gallery is arguably the most famous art museum in Florence, if not the world. Housed in a grand 16th-century building designed by Giorgio Vasari, the Uffizi boasts an unparalleled collection of Renaissance art. Visitors can marvel at works by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Caravaggio. Highlights include Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" and "Primavera," as well as Titian's "Venus of Urbino." The gallery's extensive collection provides a comprehensive overview of the Renaissance period, making it an essential stop for art lovers.

Address: Piazzale degli Uffizi, 6, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy.

3. La Bottega di David

Nestled in Via del Porcellana, we found La Bottega di David, the workshop of a young local artist. This small but special space is dedicated to the art of sculpture, drawing, and painting, all inspired by the city of Florence. La Bottega di David offers visitors the chance to meet the artist and purchase his work, with prices set in real time. The workshop provides affordable prices and a unique opportunity to support a talented local artist who brings a distinctive perspective to his work. Every piece you buy contributes a percentage to supporting other initiatives. This intimate space is perfect for those who want to engage with local art on a more personal level and bring home a memento of their trip. They only accept cash, so make sure to bring some!

Address: Via del Porcella 25, Firenze (Fl).

2. Street Levels Gallery

For those interested in contemporary and street art, Street Levels Gallery offers a contrast to the classical art found in Florence’s more traditional museums. This gallery showcases works by local and international street artists, reflecting the ever-evolving nature of urban art. Born from the synergy of artists and cultural producers, the gallery serves as a dynamic environment exploring art's interaction across street, public, and exhibition spaces. Recently, we had the opportunity to enjoy "Dinosauria: Prehistoric Imagery in the World’s Oldest Country," a group exhibition featuring 29 artists, both emerging and established, focused on the varied theme of dinosaurs. Address: Via Palazzuolo n. 74 AR 50123, Firenze (FI).
